Colmex Pro is another provider of Equity, FX and CFD trading for private investors and institutions. Founded in 2010, Colmex Pro Ltd is regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) under license number 123/10.
There are two different platforms available, including a web trader and mobile and tablet applications. That helps customers to be mobile and at the same time be able to trade, regardless of their physical location. In addition to the widely used MetaTrader 4 terminal, the company provides its own platform called Colmex Pro Trader. The company claims because the Colmex Pro Trader uses ECN model, it offers near instantaneous order execution and provides information about top 20 performers for the day and level II quotes. Clients can make so-called basket trades, buying or selling several stocks in a single order. The platform assures the traders direct access trading system. However, the Colmex Pro own platform can only be used for stock trading. If you wish to trade currency pairs, you must do this via the non-dealing desk (NDD) MT4 terminal. Keep in mind there is a commission fee between USD3/lot and USD15/lot depending on the account group. Moreover, there are fees and interest while you trade equities.
The Order Execution Policy shows that all transactions are going to be executed by the Colmex Pro as the principal. That means the company acts as a market maker and implies a conflict of interest. Another thing to mention is that under certain trading conditions it may be impossible for Colmex Pro to execute stop loss orders at the requested price. In this case the company has the right to execute the order at the next available price.
About the amount of money clients can lose: If a customer deals with currency pairs, Colmex Pro provides ‘negative balance protection’, and the client cannot lose more than the total invested amount. The situation is not the same if customers trade equities. It is written that the company takes the necessary measures in order to avoid such cases of negative balance but there are cases that are falling beyond the Colmex Pro control. In other words, keep in mind that there is an option where you can owe money to Colmex Pro.
The minimum deposit amount required is USD500 for forex and USD3,000 for equity. The typical spread of the EUR/USD pair starts at 0.3 pips. Clients can feed their accounts by credit/debit card or by bank wire.
In general, Colmex Pro is an EU-regulated broker, offering a wide range of instruments. Some of them have competitive spreads but at the expense of relatively high fees. The proprietary platform is relatively complex to use, although the company says otherwise.
